Saturday, September 10 @ The nine mile bank
We got a late start due to some last minute electronics instalation.
We left the dock at around 9:15 and headed to the bait dock, we loaded up a scoop of sardines and ran for the
nine mile bank. The radio chatter on the way out didn't sound to promising so we left the trollers up and continued
to the north nine. We spoted a pod of dolphin but no fish were holding. So on to plan B, we put the chum
bucket out with fresh ground Mackeral, sardines, and squid. About a half hour later our first Mako was on, 15
to 20 minutes he was at the boat and tied off. 80 lbs and a great first mako for Caleb. About 20 minutes later
we throw on the Jonny Cash and both drift lines start peel off as soon as I set the the other line seems to be off after
a short fight the fish come off and just as I thought we lost him and the other rod goes bendo! and we still have him.
After about a 20 minute we get him to color and he is much bigger, he sees us and runs straight down. This
is where experience comes to play, before that shark could get mor than 50 feet below the boat my dad had turned the
fish around and had him back at the boat. One bent gaff and 2 more in the gills and we had him tailed and on the swim
step. About 6 ft and 150lbs and my dad had his first mako boated. A great day on the water!
